“It’s the most wonderful time of the year” Indeed it is, Christmas is the most festive period of the year, it is a time where family comes together to celebrate and where there is celebration, there is food and lots of it. These are the times were we tend to overeat and loose focus of our fitness goals. But there is a way for us to eat and enjoy the festivities without totally sacrificing those canned yams or jollof rice.

TIP #1: Drink lots of water.

Increasing your water would keep your body in balance and It will keep it regulated. By drinking lots of water your system would naturally flush itself of the toxins. So up your water intake, at least 2 liters a day and you’re good to go.

TIP #2: Portion control.

Here is the tricky part, overeating is common at this time. An easy way to overcome this would be to control the portions we take. A good way to measure your intake would be to ration everything on your plate, it should be 50% veggies or salads,  30% proteins (fish or meats) and 20% carbs.

P.S. If veggies are not on your menu then substitute what you can and don’t fill up your plates at once. Take a little at a time and wait to see if you need seconds before taking more.

TIP #3: Regulate your eating time

After a certain time of the day eg 8pm, stop eating heavy foods and go for lighter foods like fruits and nuts, that way your body has enough time to digest all the food that you have had.
